Fine & Performing Arts
Whether performing an instrumental solo, portraying a character in a play, or painting a self-portrait, Langley’s comprehensive arts program gives students the freedom to creatively express themselves through a variety of mediums while building self-confidence.
The Fine Arts Department exposes students to a wide variety of opportunities in art, music, and drama. Because we consider the arts to be an integral part of a well-rounded curriculum, most of our arts classes are a required part of a Langley education.
Each of our faculty members is an expert in his or her field, and each brings an individual sense of stylistic creativity to the classroom through diverse lessons and performance opportunities. By offering individual attention and accommodating different learning styles, Langley teachers are able to bring out the creative best in students of all ages and abilities.
It is through memorable experiences such as performing a Chinese ribbon dance on Grandparents Day, making Sumerian clay tablets, playing a zany cowboy in a melodrama on stage, or listening to the visiting artist-in-residence band that our students become engaged and enthralled by the arts.
Langley gives students greater insight into other cultures or historical time periods by seamlessly integrating the arts into other key subject areas. For example, Native American art collages and authentic music enrich the second-grade Native American history unit. Studying jazz, swing, and bebop in music class while learning about the Harlem Renaissance in social studies and language arts gives Middle School students a more complete picture of this important time period.
