Philosophy of Teaching

Langley Academics

At The Langley School we are committed to establishing and sustaining a diverse, inclusive, and safe community. We create a child-centered environment that is academically challenging and uniquely engaging. Tradition and innovation are hallmarks of our curriculum, which is integrated across disciplines, developmentally appropriate, and multicultural. Authentic learning experiences and assessment guide teaching and learning, allowing students to reach their potential. We take pride in and are valued for our understanding of and advocacy for each student, our support of one another, and our role in the larger community.

School Divisions

The Langley School is broken into three academic divisions based on grade level:

While each division has its own unique identity and focus, there are numerous opportunities for students to interact with older and younger peers. The Big Friends/Little Buddies program, for example, pairs eighth-graders with kindergartners for weekly activities. Fifth-graders also get together frequently with first-grade buddies. Faculty collaboration and a cross-divisional approach to the curriculum ensure that students build on previous lessons and knowledge as they progress through each grade level.
