Primary School

The Primary School offers half-day preschool and junior kindergarten programs and a full-day kindergarten program five days a week for children ages three to five. Focusing on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child, the Primary School provides a nurturing and stimulating environment in which to learn on a daily basis.

Whether drawing, counting beads for a necklace, learning a song in French, observing a caterpillar, or checking out a library book, students develop self-confidence, responsibility, and decision-making abilities while building a basic foundation of knowledge of the world around them.

Children are divided into classes by age, with each class taught by both a head teacher and an assistant teacher for greater individual attention. Specialized music, physical education, modern language, library, and resource teachers also play a key role in providing a balanced and well-rounded education. Langley’s kindergarten modern language program gives children an early start to French or Spanish.

Using an integrated, thematic approach, our innovative faculty members create hands-on lessons and projects to make learning fun. When studying insects, for example, students may draw pictures of insects, sing songs about them, take a nature walk to see them firsthand, and read stories about them. Frequent curriculum-based field trips offer new learning experiences outside the classroom as well.

The Primary School places an emphasis on the natural world, with time spent outdoors each day. Students enjoy a dedicated playground area, outdoor art easels, tricycle track, and “Mr. McGregor’s Garden” where they begin studying horticulture.
