Technology

Langley Computer Lab

At Langley, technology functions as a fully-integrated curriculum tool rather than as a separate subject area. By seamlessly incorporating technology into all aspects of the curriculum, we empower students to confidently use digital tools to collect, communicate, and process information in various formats. Using Internet resources to supplement classical education, we expose our students to a rich array of primary works, and reinforce the understanding that knowledge is a constantly evolving process.

Technology plays a vital role in nearly every subject area.

All students have access to computers and digital cameras in classrooms, the Pat Bush Library, and three computer labs. The state-of-the-art Ann Potter Creative Media Studio is available to all students and teachers, and serves as a dedicated space for students to develop their own sophisticated educational films and live television programming. The studio features three cameras, a control room, studio-quality lighting, and the latest in green screen (chromakey) technology. Using special lighting and real-time video effects software, the green screen can be transformed into a virtual, two-dimensional background, allowing students to “report” from the streets of New York or the surface of the moon, for example.

Student-operated Langley TV (LTV) runs from the Media Studio and broadcasts morning announcements and original programming to all classrooms. It also serves as a campus production company, working on a wide range of video, audio, and print media projects.

Technology plays a vital role in nearly every subject area as students:

  • Develop PowerPoint presentations to enhance oral presentations
  • Track real-time data online, such as stock market investments, and communicate their findings in charts/graphs
  • Blog (online diary writing) stories-in-the-round with classmates online
  • Compose their own music electronically
  • Make and edit videos on academic topics
  • Design original computer-aided graphics
  • Write letters and stories to international pen pals
  • Create, program, and test animations in multimedia stories, science, and math simulations
