What makes a good admissions candidate at Langley?
Consistent with the mission statement, The Langley School seeks to admit students of promise and potential who are motivated to learn, can meet the demands of the school’s curriculum, will contribute positively to the overall life of the school, will abide by the school’s shared values as stated in our Community Contract, and will be successful in our program.
What testing is required for admission?
Testing is required for all applicants except those students applying to preschool. Parents of children applying to junior kindergarten through grade 5 should schedule an assessment at a professional evaluation center.
Applicants to junior kindergarten, kindergarten, and grade 1 who are five years old and younger should take the WPPSI-III. Applicants to grades 2 through 5 who are six years old and older should take the WISC-IV. Applicants to grades 6 through 8 should take the SSAT test. The SSAT will be given at The Langley School on December 8, 2007, and students must pre-register with SSAT (www.ssat.org) and know that Langley’s school code is 4507. Results of all assessments must be received no later than February 1, 2008.
Are there age requirements?
To be considered for the preschool program, students must be three years of age by September 1 of the year they start school. Students applying to junior kindergarten and kindergarten must be four or five years old, respectively, by September 30 of the year they start school. Students applying to grades 1-8 are admitted to grade levels appropriate for their development.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline for the 2008-2009 school year is January 18, 2008, and all supplemental application materials must be postmarked no later than February 1.
Is financial aid available?

What are The Langley School’s hours?
The school day runs from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. However, students in the AM preschool and junior kindergarten classes are dropped off at 7:50 a.m. and picked up at 10:50 a.m., while students in the PM preschool and junior kindergarten classes are dropped off at 11:45 a.m. and picked up at 2:45 p.m.
What is the average class size?
Classes in preschool through fourth grade are typically 16-18 students, while fifth grade is between 20-22 students. In grades 1-5, however, specific subjects are taught in instructional groups ranging from 4-15 students. Middle School classes are generally between 10-13 students. Overall, the student/teacher ratio at The Langley School is 7:1.
Do students wear uniforms?
No. Students at The Langley School do not wear uniforms; however, Langley does have a student dress code.
Is there any high school placement counseling provided?
Yes. The school provides counseling to eighth-grade students and their parents throughout the high school selection process.
