Interscholastic Team Sports
Students in grades 5-8 may participate in Langley’s after-school interscholastic team sports program. Interscholastic athletics provide an excellent forum for rigorous competition, while helping students develop a sense of loyalty, sportsmanship, and teamwork. When partnered with the values Langley students are learning in the classroom, athletic competition is an effective way to guide student development.
Langley offers participation to interested students seasonally in soccer, basketball, softball, and lacrosse. Teams are organized into varsity and junior varsity groups, with uniforms provided by the school. Seventh- and eighth-grade students comprise the varsity teams, while fifth- and sixth-grade students make up the junior varsity teams. In addition to the seasonal sports, students have the option of participating in a cross country meet in the fall and a track and field meet in the spring.
Langley is a founding member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) which was formed by a small group of area schools in 1979. Today the 10-member CAC offers interscholastic competition for boys and girls in a variety of sports. Students play a full schedule of home and away games, and most of the sports also have season-ending CAC tournaments.
Current members of the CAC include: Congressional School, Green Acres School, Immanuel Christian School, The Langley School, National Presbyterian School, Norwood School, Sheridan School, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School, Westminster School, and Woods Academy.
Langley hosts a sports banquet each fall and spring to honor our student athletes and present awards to our accomplished teams.
