Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Grand Parents Day

More than 300 grandparents and special friends – from as far away as Turkey and Australia – got a taste of life as a Langley student on November 20, 2007, during the school’s annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day. After a buffet breakfast in the Solomon Athletic Center, guests enjoyed a student musical program, “Celebrating the Arts.”

Students in kindergarten through grade 8 sang, danced, drummed, and played instruments as they displayed their creativity and artistic abilities. In addition to an Irish dance, an innovative stomp dance featuring household items, and a creative rendition of “Got No Strings” from “Pinocchio,” students used Langley’s new set of drums to accompany a Navajo dance, a West African folk song, and a stunning medley of Navajo round dances performed by the Middle School Symphonic Band.

Following the musical performances, grandparents and special friends visited classes with their student. Whether playing a math game, reading a story together, or joining in a music lesson, guests participated fully in classroom activities and got a firsthand look at a typical day at Langley.
