Myths about Giving to the Annual Fund
The school has an endowment; it doesn’t need any more
money. The Langley School, like other responsible schools,
has a spending policy that dictates what can be spent each year
from the endowment. Our policy calls for 5 percent of the value
of our small endowment to be spent annually.
I pay tuition each year, so I’ve already sent in enough money. At independent schools, the cost of education is higher than tuition fees. At Langley, tuition and other income covers 94 percent of this cost, and the remaining six percent comes from gifts to the Annual Fund.
My gift won’t make a difference. Your gift
of any size has a tremendous impact, helping talented students attend
Langley, sustaining the high quality of the curriculum, maintaining
low class size, and providing other vital support for the school’s
day-to-day excellence.
My participation doesn’t matter. Your participation
does matter. National private foundations consider alumni, faculty, staff,
and trustee Annual Fund giving before awarding grants to schools. Foundations
are more likely to award grants to The Langley School when the school’s
own community financially supports the institution.
