Morning Drop-Off

All students must be dropped off at the entrance to the Lower School building. Staff will assist students in getting out of cars in front of the Lower School beginning at 8:15 a.m. Please note that Little Langley classes begin at 8:45 a.m., with drop-off starting at 8:30 a.m.

The carpool line forms in the school’s circular drive and extends onto Balls Hill Road. Please note that left turns into the parking lot from Balls Hill Road are not permitted during arrival/dismissal times.

All children ages three and four must be walked to class if they are not dropped off during carpool. Do not park in fire lanes or where signage is posted.

Mid-Day & Afternoon Pick-Up

Drivers are requested not to queue before the pick-up times noted above. When picking up a child, please place your placard on your dashboard until you have picked up your child. This allows school personnel directing traffic to move the carpool line along more efficiently. Remember to stay in your car as staff will be available to help your child at the curb. Please pull your car into a parking spot in order to fasten your child’s safety belt. School personnel are not able to buckle children into their seats. The queue of cars must not block the entrance and exit of the Government Center and extend onto Lewinsville Road, causing a safety risk.

General Carpool Guidelines

We at Langley are committed to being good neighbors to our surrounding community in McLean and ask you to help us by following the school’s carpool “Dos & Don’ts.”

Please approach Langley from Lewinsville Road so you won’t need to make left turns into campus, make illegal u-turns, or use the Government Center to cut into the carpool line. By doing so, you will be obeying the law, conforming to our agreement with Fairfax County regarding carpool, and respecting other members of our community who are waiting in line. Upon entering campus, all cars must stop where stop signs are posted and traffic must remain below 5 mph.

Late Pick-Up

Children who are not picked up by 3:45 p.m. will join the Extend the Fun program and parents/guardians will be charged the daily drop-in rate of $15. Please note that this program ends promptly at 5:00 p.m.; a late fee per child is assessed for all pick-ups after 5:00 p.m.

Late Arrivals

Students arriving after their designated drop-off time should report to the Summer Studio office in the Lower School building.

Afternoon Extended Day

Extend the Fun is The Langley School Summer Studio after-care program available from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Supervised play time, games, and arts and crafts are some of the fun options available for children to extend their day. An afternoon snack is provided. The weekly fee is $75. We do not offer a morning care program before carpool begins at 8:15 a.m.

To accommodate parents with variable schedules, The Langley School Summer Studio permits daily drop-ins for Extend the Fun. The drop-in fee for Extend the Fun is $15 per day. A completed drop-in form must be on file with the Summer Studio Office before noon on the day your child will need Extend the Fun. Unfortunately, students are not able to attend Extend the Fun without advanced registration. This policy is in place so Langley can provide the safest possible environment for your child. Please go to the Summer Studio Web site, www.langleyschool.org/summerstudio, to review the procedures and print a drop-in form.

Summer Studio Extend the Fun ends promptly at 5:00 p.m. A late fee per child is assessed for all pick-ups after 5:00 p.m. Between 5:00 – 5:30 p.m., charges are $25 for every 15 minutes or fraction thereof. After 30 minutes, charges increase to $50 for every 15 minutes or fraction thereof. Late pick-up charges will be due the next day in the form of a check payable to The Langley School Summer Studio or will be billed to the credit card on file.

Early Departures

Students must bring their teachers a signed note from their parents/guardians on the day they need to leave early. To pick up a student early, sign the child out in the Summer Studio office. A staff member will go to the classroom and bring your child to you.

Transportation/Field Trips

Transportation is not available for the Summer Studio program. However, Langley school buses and drivers will provide all transportation for off-campus field trips. The school requires that a parent/guardian go on all field trips if their child has a life-threatening emergency prescription medication; staff members supervising the field trip are not trained to administer prescription medications. Classes that leave campus for field trips are indicated in the class descriptions; all other classes will remain on campus.

Release of Students/Custody Restrictions

The Langley School Summer Studio staff will assume that both parents/guardians have equal legal custody of their children and will release children to either parent/guardian unless provided with a copy of legal documentation indicating otherwise. Any changes in who is picking up your child, regardless of whether that person is familiar to the student, must be communicated to the director of Summer Studio in writing. Children will not be released to anyone other than their parent(s)/guardian(s) without a written statement from the parent/guardian with legal custody.

Attendance & Absences

In the event of your child’s absence, please call the Summer Studio message line at (703) 356-1920, x236 by 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the absence. Please state your name, the phone number where you can be reached, and the student’s name. There are no refunds for classes which your child does not attend. If a child misses an academic class, there is no provision for a make-up day.

Forgotten Items

If you need to bring something to your child during the day, please drop it off at the Summer Studio office in the Lower School building in order to avoid classroom disruptions.
