  • Employment Opportunity

The Langley School, a preschool to grade 8 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a middle school math and science teacher for two consecutive parental leave assignments from approximately January 6, 2020 through June 12, 2020 (with an orientation week in December). This is a unique opportunity for the educator with the right skills, knowledge, and experience.

The first part of the assignment will focus on math and will begin with an orientation period December 16-20, 2019.  The assignment will continue after winter break and will run from roughly January 6, 2020, through April 10, 2020. Teaching duties will include four sections of sixth-grade math. Other duties will include electives, carpool, and coverage for lunch, break, and recess.

The second part of the assignment will focus on science, and teaching duties will include four sections of seventh-grade science. This assignment will continue through the end of the school year until roughly June 13, 2020. The Science Department works collaboratively with classroom teachers as part of grade-level teams and with departmental colleagues to plan and implement Langley’s integrated, inquiry-based, dynamic science curriculum.

Bachelor's or master's degree in mathematics and science education, strong expert background in math and science, middle school teaching experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, and a passion for working with adolescent children required. Master's degree preferred.
