Leopard Cubs On-Site Childcare
The Langley School’s Leopard Cubs childcare and child development program is aimed at supporting working parents by providing children (ages six weeks to three years) of Langley faculty and staff with a safe and nurturing educational experience. Langley faculty and staff may enroll their children in the program for a fee on a space-available basis. If space is available, the program is also open to employees of select nearby schools. Leopard Cubs typically runs from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on regular school days.
Philosophy
The Leopard Cubs program implements the Creative Curriculum® throughout each classroom, a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum specifically designed for infants, toddlers, and preschool preparatory. Through intentional teaching, teachers focus their lessons on 38 learning objectives that enhance all areas of development, including social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, and literacy. Embedded in the program’s daily lessons are the core values of The Langley School: belonging, respect, integrity, kindness, and citizenship.
Also reflected in the program is the school’s overall focus on inquiry learning and the importance of teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion in age-appropriate ways. Each lesson has a learning target and an activity, with dedicated time for collaboration, and an assessment.
Finally, the social and emotional well-being of every child in the program is first and foremost in the minds of the educators. Once a week in all three programs (infants, toddlers, and preschool preparatory), there is a lesson with an intentional focus on the key components of social and emotional well-being. Using age-appropriate books, establishing a “calm corner,” and using visuals, each class allows each child to talk about their feelings/emotions and use the mood meter. Even the infants begin to understand with visuals.
Programs
Infant Program:
Even in the earliest stages of development, infants are eager learners. As educators, it is our strong belief that providing a warm, safe, and nurturing environment enhances the ability to tap into the endless possibilities that infancy brings. We begin by developing strong bonds with each individual child and his/her parent(s). Our dedicated team of teachers provides developmentally appropriate activities that include sensory activities, fine motor activities, gross motor activities, and 30 minutes of tummy time.
Toddler Program:
As children grow from infancy to the toddler years, Leopard Cubs teachers provide challenging and age-appropriate activities that are planned to support each child at their own unique pace. During this stage, educators focus strongly on enhancing gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and language development. Lesson plans are created weekly to respond to where the children are.
Preschool Preparatory Program:
The preschool preparatory program is designed to prepare children for the next step in their educational journey. In collaboration with The Langley School preschool teachers, Leopard Cubs teachers design lessons that develop skills that will enable children to be successful in a formal preschool program. Teachers continue to build a strong academic, social, and emotional foundation while incorporating an introduction to structured literacy, math, and hands-on science activities.
