Professional Development

At Langley, recognizing the importance of supporting our employees’ continued learning, well-being, and intellectual exploration is a community-wide endeavor. In fact, providing resources for faculty excellence and professional development is the reason behind one of our biggest fundraising efforts, the annual spring auction. Watch this video where faculty discuss the impact of those dollars on Langley’s faculty and students.

Grateful for Professional Development

The following opportunities are available for faculty and staff:

Faculty/staff summer grants are 10 summer grant opportunities for eligible faculty and staff. Funded by the generosity of past and present members of our community, these annual awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and represent our shared commitment to lifelong learning, work-life balance, and pursuing our personal and professional passions.

Leadership Cohort is part of a broader distributed leadership model at Langley that provides teacher input and influence over school-wide initiatives, especially professional development content. The model provides a dedicated space for a diverse cohort of leaders at Langley, including grade-level leads, administrators, and department leads, to learn together and have two-way dialog around the topics most central to our instructional work as a school.

Faculty coaching is a non-evaluative approach at Langley where faculty receive reflection and feedback in a way that amplifies their strengths and provides clear opportunity to achieve growth where needed. Connected to Langley’s Inquiry Essential Practices, mission, and values, our instructional coaching model is focused on deep self-reflection, uncovering strengths and skills, and thought partnership.

On-campus professional development is intentionally designed and offered monthly during regular meetings throughout the school year. This includes school-wide learning opportunities, divisional focus on specific topics, and dedicated time for subject area collaboration and learning.

Outside professional development is covered with additional funds and time that is dedicated for employees to access the professional development that supports the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion program and practices.
