Instructional Technologist Serves as Faculty Scholar
In October 2015, Langley Instructional Technologist Laura Dixon attended the Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) for Women in Technology Conference in Houston, TX, the world’s largest technical conference for women technologists. Laura was selected to be a faculty scholar at the conference based on the self-study research project she completed with the Virginia Center for Excellence in Teaching (VCET) STEM Academy at George Mason University that examined the gender gap in our technology culture.
Throughout the week, Laura connected with many passionate students, educators, and professionals who are technology innovators. She spoke one-on-one with Megan Smith, the United States chief technology officer in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Hadi Partovi, co-founder of education nonprofit Code.org, about learning experiences happening at Langley. She also met with Nat and Lo from Google to discuss the 20Time projects some of our Middle Schoolers are working on.
