Primary School

Langley’s developmentally aligned curriculum offers an inquiry-based, thematic, experiential approach while uncovering individual strengths and interests. Children do hands-on science from day one, learning to make predictions, conduct experiments, and analyze results. Through purposeful play, they learn problem-solving, critical thinking, and math concepts such as counting, spatial awareness, geometry, and sequencing. Throughout their Primary School years, students are engaged in an intentional literacy and math curriculum that prepares them for the transition to the next grade level. 

Beginning in preschool, specialists teach music, library, physical education, and Spanish, while art, science, and technology are integrated into the homeroom curriculum. Beginning in kindergarten, students also work with STEAM and art specialists to grow their creativity and critical-thinking skills.

Wide-ranging performance and public-speaking opportunities help our youngest students build poise and presentation skills from the start. For example, students gain confidence through on-stage performances for Grandparents & Special Friends Day and the annual Primary School concert. 

Our buddy program, a longtime Langley tradition pairing kindergartners with eighth-graders that began in 1984, provides inspiring role models for our kindergarten students and fosters a growing friendship. Each week, buddies spend time together reading, drawing, playing on the playground, and building special bonds.

Frequent field trips bring classroom learning to life, fuel children's curiosity about the wider world, and allow them to witness firsthand the places and processes they’ve learned about in class.

Developmentally appropriate spaces and high-school caliber facilities energize our students and spark ambition. Our Crossroads Building, opened in fall 2022, includes spacious, light-filled classrooms designed to support the developmental needs of our youngest learners and enable dramatic play, hands-on discovery, and collaborative and individual study. Our Primary School playground encourages children to learn through play, while enhancing fine and gross motor skills. And access to Langley’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the arts center, athletic center, turf field, and library, inspire students to envision and work toward their educational future.
