What is The Langley Fund?

The Langley Fund is a vital part of the annual operating budget, contributing to every part of the school’s operation, including arts, athletics, technology, faculty professional development, and student financial aid. 

Is annual giving unique to Langley?

No. Independent schools have long relied upon the generosity and loyalty of their constituencies. Very few, if any, independent schools meet full operational costs with tuition alone. 

What is the difference between the ways to give?

What are other ways that I can contribute to Langley besides cash?

May I make my gift anonymously?

Yes. When you send in your contribution, be sure to let us know that you would like to be anonymous and we will be happy to honor your request.

Is it possible to make a gift in memory of someone or to honor a former teacher or coach?

Certainly. We will be happy to discuss either of these options with you. The family will be notified of the gift, if appropriate.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

All contributions are fully tax-deductible according to IRS guidelines. Upon giving a gift to Langley, you will receive a gift receipt that you can use for tax purposes. Please check with your tax advisor for details regarding your individual circumstances.

Can I make a gift for a specific purpose or to support the endowment?

Certainly. If there is a specific project you would like to fund, please let us know. Generally, endowment funds may be established to support scholarships, faculty salaries and professional development, and specific academic, athletic, and co-curricular programs. The principal of endowed funds remains invested and untouched in perpetuity, generally with five percent of the invested amount being used each year in operations for the intended purpose, should the returns and valuation permit. Many donors choose to honor or memorialize a family member, friend, or teacher through the naming of endowed funds. Learn more about giving to the endowment.

 

May I make a deferred or planned gift?

Yes. Your support makes the difference in securing the future of The Langley School. Opportunities for planned giving include bequests, gifts of retirement assets or life insurance, charitable gift annuities, remainder trusts, and lead trusts. Learn more about planned giving. 

 

What is the annual auction and will I be asked to participate?

The annual auction is a great community building activity and one of the school’s primary fundraising initiatives. All funds raised help to offset current-year operating expenses such as faculty/staff salaries, student financial aid, and academic and extracurricular programs. We hope that you will choose to participate in and support the auction by sponsoring or attending the event, donating an item for the silent or live auctions, or serving as a volunteer. A special component of the evening, “Raise the Paddle,” supports faculty excellence.

May I volunteer my time?

Yes. Volunteers are crucial to our success and have played a central role in the life of the school since our founding in 1942. Please contact a member of the development team if you would like to volunteer or discuss how to get involved.
