As they study erosion in STEAM class, second-graders are looking at ways that erosion impacts people in different environments. They conducted an experiment with models of erosion prevention to see what held the soil in place the best.
During their study of author Gabi Garcia – whose books center on emotions – first-graders charted story elements and made connections between her books and the Mood Meter. They shared what they learned during a performance which featured a reader’s theater of three books along with songs.
Langley artists in grades kindergarten, 4, and 8 worked with visiting educators from The Phillips Collection to create nature prints inspired by artist Alphonse Mucha. Their unique prints were combined to create a circular large-scale work of art that is currently on display at The Phillips Collection.
During their study of the American Revolution, seventh-graders conducted inquiry-based research on everything from spies and disease to the founding fathers and the role of black soldiers. In addition to presenting their findings, students recreated a class game like Monopoly into a new version that represented their topic.
During their realistic drawing unit, sixth-graders created oil pastel drawings depicting various endangered species and included statistics and facts about the animals. In addition to enhancing their artistic skills, this project also enabled students to raise awareness through art.
