We’re pleased to announce Foon Sham, sculptor and University of Maryland professor of art, as Langley’s 2024 artist-in-residence. An established artist who has displayed work in major museums both nationally and internationally, Foon weaves wood into large-scale sculptures. In early April, he will conduct a series of interactive workshops with grades K, 4, and 8 during which students will build a structure using the theme of repetition as inspiration.
In preparation for his visit, Foon loaned Langley two pieces of his work which he installed on campus – an interactive indoor cone sculpture in the Pirro Studios Makerspace and a 13’x13’ section of his “Maze of Knowledge” in the gazebo area behind the Middle School. All students will explore and engage with these sculptures in their art classes over the next several months.
