As part of their unit on American symbols, the democratic process, and voting/elections, second-graders enjoyed park ranger-led tours of the Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and FDR memorials. Throughout this unit, students are studying national symbols and holidays, learning about the responsibilities of the presidency and branches of government, and finishing with a mock election that allows them to experience the electoral process in a hands-on, age-appropriate way.
