Primary and Lower School students learned all about the process of planning, drafting, revising, and illustrating picture books on November 4 from Langley’s visiting author, Hyewon Yum. During a series of presentations and workshops for students throughout the day, Ms. Yum read her latest book, Spoonful of the Sea, about the Korean tradition of eating seaweed soup on birthdays. She explained her research process to create the book, showed students story drafts with notes from her editor, shared her initial thumbnail sketches, and explained the trial and error involved in getting the text and illustrations ready for publication.
